A rereading of Marx, rejecting the stances favoured by Marxists of the last century, seems to reinforce a sceptical view of the possibilities for change. One important reason for reluctance to adopt a sceptical stance is that the fatalism associated with the sense that the forces at play in the economy are beyond our deliberate control is contrary to the convictions of our Catholic faith and the hope-filled stance of Catholic Social Thought. Possible resources from the tradition are explored to counter the current sense of inevitability and hopelessness. Quattro elementi del pensiero di K. Marx gettano luce sull'attuale crisi economica: 1) La creazione di un nuovo mondo a immagine della borghesia. 2) Il paradosso della disuguaglianza: produciamo povertà nello stesso momento in cui produciamo ricchezza. 3) L'intreccio complesso fra il piano dell'economia, quello della politica e quello della legalità. 4) Il fatto che le possibilità di interventi efficaci siano estremamente limitate. Una rilettura di Marx che nega le prospettive privilegiate dai Marxisti del secolo scorso sembra rinforzare lo scetticismo intorno a una reale possibilità di cambiamento. Questo non toglie che vi siano ragioni fondate per opporsi a un tale scetticismo: il fatalismo legato alla convinzione che le forze in gioco nell'economia siano al di fuori del nostro controllo è in contrasto con la fede Cattolica e con l'atteggiamento pieno di speranza che caratterizza la Dottrina Sociale delle Chiesa. Quest'articolo cerca di opporsi al fatalismo e alla mancanza di speranza, avviando un'indagine intorno alle risorse che la tradizione può offrire. | ||
