Suite à la montée en force de la philologie et d'autres sciences humaines, l'exigence critique s'est imposée, des le XVIe siècle, en faveur de l'établissement des textes les plus authentiques possibles. Au cours du XVIIe siecle, ce sont les « contrariétés », ou incohérences et contradictions entre de nombreux passages de l'Écriture, qui ont attiré l'attention des interprètes et ouvert leur intérêt pour l'épaisseur historique des textes. Aujourd'hui plus que jamais, l'exégèse historico-critique est indispensable à la théologie, si celle-ci désire éviter le dogmatisme qui ignore les conditions de l'incarnation. The reading and interpretation of Scripture underwent a profound change between the Middle Ages and the Modern period. Generated by the increasing importance and power of philology and other human sciences, the demand for a critical approach imposed itself from the Sixteenth Century onward, an approach that promoted the establishment of the most authentic texts possible. During the Seventeenth Century, «annoyances» or incoherences and contradictions among numerous passages of Scripture were noted by exegetes, an awareness that moved them to become interested in the historical «thickness» of the texts. Today, more than ever before, historical-critical exegesis is indispensable. to theology if it hopes to avoid a dogmatism that ignores the conditions imposed by the Incarnation. | ||
