Description
Summary:The lucan pericope entitled in the Jerusalem Bible «The woman who was a sinner» (Lk 7:36-50) has led to many literary critical studies. Authors have tried to explain the alleged contradictions of the text by assigning its different parts to distinct sources. The present analysis intends to show that the tensions and the distinct accentuations find in the text their intrinsic reason. They are intended to focus the attention increasingly on the main figure of the narrative who is not the sinful woman but Simon and, in the last analysis, the reader inasmuch as he too is a pharisee. In this perspective, a new translation is proposed of verse 47b where an invitation is made to Simon to «love (at least) a little».
