Le changement est sans doute dû aux tensions que la première visée a suscitées en ce qui regarde la relation naturel-surnaturel, liberté, péché, rédemption, et la validité des concepts. Avec le changement d'accent, la foi devient de plus en plus une réponse non-thématique à la grâce prévenante plutôt que la réception de vérités objectives sous l'autorité de l'Eglise. Cependant, Lonergan n'a jamais rejeté sa vision objective antérieure. Pour comprendre correctement sa pensée, il faut tenir compte des tensions continuelles entre objectif et subjectif, Dieu et l'homme, concept et intellection, la relation intellect-volonté, l'ordre naturel et surnaturel. | ||
