520 |a The pauline parallelism between Adam and Christ has found an echo in the theology of Hilary. Not only in the many references to the text of Paul which develop it directly, but also in relation to many texts of the Old Testament, mostly of the first chapters of Genesis. Two fundamental ideas are found in the reflections of the Doctor of Poitiers on this biblical motive: on the one hand, by the assumption of the flesh and his union with the whole of humankind Jesus frees men from the sinful situation inherited from the first parent; this idea is already developed in the early works of the author. But, on the other hand, as the new Adam, Jesus realizes the plan made by God for humankind from the beginning. Adam needs to be "reheaded" in Christ not only in so far as he is the first sinner, but as the first man and the first father; this is the novelty found in the last works of Hilary.
