Description
Summary:The publication of Der Geist der Wahrheit saw the completion of the trilogy which had occupied von Balthasar for some twenty five years. This article proposes to introduce some of the fundamental concepts of Herrlichkeit, Theodramatik and Theologik, in order to show the profound unity of thought of an author often improperly relegated to the sphere of aesthetics. After an introduction to the concept of "theology" as a necessary preamble to a systematic reading of von Balthasar, the structure of "Glory" is shown to be the peculiar content of fundamental and dogmatic theology. The second part of the article outlines the anthropology which emerges in Theodramatik, leading to the understanding of the trinitarian love of God present in the death of Jesus of Nazareth. The article concludes with an exposition of the concept of "truth" as it emerges from the final part of the trilogy. The thesis sustained here is that revealed love is the engine propelling von Balthasar's entire work.
