Du fait, de cette décision l'accès fut limité pendant un siècle. Au 18e siècle, de nouveaux groupes demandèrent la permission de visiter la bibliothèque, par exemple les membres des cours européennes pendant leur séjour à Rome, ou des nobles qui voulaient contrôler les manuscrits de Jacovacci avec les listes des familles romaines. En outre, les artistes demandèrent la permission d'étudier les fresques de la bibliothèque. Montfaucon, Muratori et Mansi vinrent à la Vaticane. D'autre part des historiens, musicologues et philologues moins fameux comme Winckelmann, Zaccaria, le bibliothécaire du duc de Modène, Charles O'Connor, Charles Burney, Charles Cocquelines, Friedrich Münter et Gerbert Martin travaillèrent à la bibliothèque. In the 'Motu proprio' Ancorché i Sommi Pontifici of 4 August 1761, Clement XIII ordered the cardinal librarian and the 1st custodian to make sure that nobody should be able to study manuscripts without papal permission. With this order, free entrance to the library was limited for nearly a century. In the 18th century a number of groups arrived requesting permission to visit the library: members of European courts wanting to see the treasures of the library during their visit in Rome; nobles asking to check the manuscript of Jacovacci containing the list of Roman families; and artists wanting to study the drawings in the hall of the library. Beside the research done by the most famous scholars, such as Montfaucon, Muratori, and Mansi, there were requests made to study manuscripts by historians, musicologists and philologues, such as Winckelmann, Zaccaria, the librarian of the duke of Modene, Charles O'Connor, Charles Burney, Charles Cocquelines, Friedrich Münter and Gerbert Martin. | ||
