AB Cette note met en evidence le context culturel et ecclésiastique qui a mené à la traduction en langue illyrienne du Rituale Romanum de Paul V, exécutée à la demande de la Congrégation pour la Propagation de la Foi, par le jésuite Barthélemy Kašić. Cette traduction se situe dans une problématique plus large qui concerne l'utilisation des langues vulgaires dans la liturgie. Le contexte culturel est celui du Collège Romain, où Kašić avait été formé et où avait été fondée une Académie Illyrienne qui devait préparer des missionairies pour les Balkans. Le contexte ecclésiastique est celui de la Curie papale sous les pontificats de Paul V et de Grégoire XV avec les efforts d'adaptation — ou d'inculturation — qui animaient la Congrégation pour la Propagation de la Foi jusqu'à 1659. The following note puts in evidence both the cultural and ecclesiastical context that gave impulse to a translation of the Rituale Romanum of Pope Paul V in the vernacular Illyrian language, later published — on request of the Propaganda Fide — by the Jesuit Father Bartolomeo Kašić. The translation is placed within the general problematic presented by the need for a vernacular for liturgical purposes. The first context consists in the cultural and theological significance of the Collegio Romano, where Kašić received not only his intellectual formation but where the Academia Illyrica was also erected in view of the formation of missionaries for the Balkans. The second context is that of the Papal Curia during the pontificates of Paul V and Gregory XV and especially its tendency towards adaption (or inculturation), which characterized the activities of Propaganda Fide until 1659.
