Innocent VI aurait entendu se servir de cette législation synodale comme d'un compromis entre le clergé séculier et les Ordres mendiants. From the register of John Gynwell, bishop of Lincoln (1347-1362), is presented new evidence of English episcopal support for the suit prosecuted at the Roman curia by Archbishop FitzRalph of Armagh against the mendicant orders (1357-1360). The text is edited of a notarial instrument drawn up by the archbishop's party to record the legislation of a diocesan synod at Avignon in October 1359. It is argued that Innocent VI intended the synodal legislation as a compromise between the demands of the seculars and mendicants on the pastoral issues. | ||
