Nel fare ciò, Vico rintraccia tre forme rituali presenti in ogni società: il funerale, il matrimonio, la preghiera. Come è noto, essi sono chiamati In the middle of Modernity, Giambattista Vico reflects on the concept of natural right, challenged by the provocation of Ugo Grotius, for whom natural law does not require any divine foundation. As I will show, one of the purposes of “The New Science” is indeed that of responding to Grotius. In doing so, Vico traces three ritual forms present in every society: funeral, marriage and worship. As is known, he calls them “Principles of New Science” and considers them to be the conditions for a society to be established and consequently of the human being itself. In this paper, I will firstly investigate the reason of Vico’s emphasis on them. Secondly, I will highlight their relation to the Vichean account of piety and Providence. Finally, I will show that this latter account leads him to reaffirm the indispensable role of religion in human matters. | ||
