L’articolo si sofferma sulla dottrina che Ugo di San Vittore offre nella sua opera Eruditionis didascalicae, o Didascalicon. In particolare, nel secondo libro della fortunata opera si descrivono le tre forme della musica che si presenta quale: musica dell’universo, musica della vita umana (corpo e anima) e musica strumentale. Ciascuno di questi ambiti esprime la visione armonica del sapere cristiano, ispirato e rivolto verso l’approfondimento del mistero dell’Incarnazione. Alcuni aspetti appaiono oggi particolarmente ricchi di sapienza e interrogano anche il nostro tempo, favorendo la riscoperta della via musicale come percorso anagogico dello spirito umano “attratto” verso l’Alto. Music occupies a prominent place in the Middle Ages, being one of the liberal arts of the quadrivium. Its importance is recognized in the curriculum and in preparation for the study of theology. This essay focuses on the instruction that Hugh of St. Victor offers in his Eruditionis didascalicae, or the Didascalicon. In the second book of his outstanding work he especially describes music under three forms: the music of the universe, the music of human life (body and soul), and instrumental music. Inspired and directed towards a deepening of the mystery of the Incarnation, each of these areas expresses the harmonious vision of Christian learning. These features unfold as particularly rich in insight and are cause to question our own age, and to foster the rediscovery of music as an anagogic journey of the human spirit drawn towards the Heights. | ||
