520 |a After sketching some leading ideas of Paul Oskar Kristeller concerning the tradition of scholarship, the principles of intellectual history, and medieval and Renaissance philosophy, the author of this commentary reviews each of the essays in the present volume. He explores some of their shared themes, namely, the relationship between the studia humanitatis and Scholastic philosophy, and the role of Thomas Aquinas in signal Renaissance disputes on the superiority of Plato or Aristotle, the correct interpretation of Aristotle, and the immortality of the soul.
