Questo modello Teo-ontologico contribuisce, da un lato, all’e-dificazione di una metafisica trinitaria e, dall’altro, critica la moderna e postmoderna concezione dualistica che separa la concezione integrale della relazione umana in puro dono e puro scambio. Il saggio, infine, intende mostrare come il ruolo dello Spirito Santo e della carità, come virtù teologale, anima la più rigorosa concezione economica dell’Aquinate che mostra di essere stata ispirata dal carisma di san Domenico, vissuto dall’Ordine dei Predicatori. In questo modo, speriamo di mostrare che il pensiero economico di san Tommaso d’Aquino non possa essere usato per sostenere la moderna ideologia liberal-capitalista. Questa concezione può comunque essere utile per rispondere alla “grande sfida” lanciata da Benedetto XVI nella Caritas in veritate 36: «di mostrare […] che nei rapporti mercantili il principio di gratuità e la logica del dono come espressione della fraternità possono e devono trovare posto entro la normale attività economica». Based on the interpretations given of Aquinas’s pneumatology by Gilles Emery and John Milbank, the paper aims to describe the Holy Spirit as a way to think theologically about the fundamental economic categories of “gift” and “reciprocity”. This Theo-ontological model contributes, on one hand, to the edification of a Trinitarian metaphysics and, on the other hand, it criticizes the modern and postmodern dualistic conception that sunders the integral conception of the human relationship in sheer gift and sheer exchange. Finally, the paper intends to show how the role of the Holy Spirit and of charity, as a theological virtue, animates Aquinas’s more strict economic conception which proves to have been inspired by the charism of Saint Dominic, lived by the Order of the Preachers. In this way, we hope to show that Aquinas’s economic thought cannot be used to endorse the modern liberal-capitalistic ideology. His conception can however be useful to answer to the “great challenge” posed by Benedict XVI in Caritas in veritate 36: «to demonstrate […] that in commercial relationships the principle of gratuitousness and the logic of gift as an expression of fraternity can and must find their place within normal economic activity. This is a human demand at the present time, but it is also demanded by economic logic. It is a demand both of charity and of truth». | ||
