Dante cristiano sa, con san Paolo, che ogni dono di Dio è destinato all’utilità comune; in questo senso la Commedia è autentica opera di carità cristiana. Più a fondo, Dante poeta sa che la lingua non è solo strumento della testimonianza: alla scuola di Bernardo di Chiaravalle riconosce che la sua esperienza mistica ha una forma linguistica di cui il Verbo è l’artefice determinante. La lingua poi, è corpo del poeta che compie il cammino di conversione determinato dalla sua esperienza di Dio. La lingua ha dunque un rilevante profilo teologico e vocazionale. In questa prospettiva la Commedia sollecita direttamente l’attenzione del teologo che troppo l’ha trascurata. Dante presents the Comedy to the reader not only as the highest artwork, of which he is largely conscious, but also as a Christian witness to a mystic experience that has changed both Dante’s existence and Dante’s poetry. Dante the “Christian” knows, as Saint Paul, that every gift given by God is for everybody’s advantage: this is why the Comedy is an authentic work of Christian charity. Furthermore, Dante the “Poet” knows that language is not merely supposed to witness: thanks to Bernardo of Chiaravalle and his school, he recognises that his own mystic experience has its proper linguistic rule, determined by the Word of God. In addition, the language coincides with the body of the poet, who is walking the path of conversion determined by the discovery of God. That is why language has a relevant meaning, both theologically and vocationally. Under this perspective, the Comedy awakes the attention of theologians themselves, for they have widely neglected it. | ||
