Analizzando l’uso del termine “amico” nella Vita Nuova, nel Convivio, nella Lettera a Cangrande e nella Commedia, lo scopo del contributo è di mostrare come – sfruttando fonti classiche (Aristotele e Cicerone) e cristiane (Agostino e Aelredo di Rievaulx) sull’amicizia e impiegando tutti gli strumenti retorici di una lingua considerata matura abbastanza per mediare contenuti filosofici, metafisici e profetici – Dante nasconda nelle pieghe più riposte del testo un messaggio profetico di rinnovamento spirituale e politico, basato su direttive escatologiche e filosofiche. La definizione dantesca di vera amicizia, come partecipazione alla grazia divina, come amore reciproco fra la creatura e il suo Fattore, vede Beatrice come simbolo dell’Intelletto Agente e al tempo stesso del Cristo, e ne fa il nesso celeste che conduce il poeta ad esperire l’”amicizia” di Dio. The paper links Dante’s perception of friendship to the particular brand of rhetoric developed at the University of Bologna, where the study of rhetoric was considered as one of the means to forward a mystical ideal and in particular to the Rhetorica Novissima of Boncompagno da Signa. Focusing on the use of the term “amico” in the Vita Nuova, Convivio, the Letter to Cangrande and the Commedia, the aim of this paper is to show how - exploiting classical (Aristotle and Cicero) and Christian theories concerning friendship (Augustine and Aelred of Rievaulx’s perception of “soul friendship”) and using all the rhetorical tools of a language he is convinced mature enough to mediate philosophical, metaphysical and prophetic contents - Dante hides in the inner depths of his text a prophetical message of spiritual and political renewal based on eschatological-philosophical directives. Dante’s definition of true friendship, as participation in divine Grace, as a reciprocal love between the creature and its maker, sees Beatrice as a sign of the Active Intellect, as a representation of Christ, as a heavenly link that brings the poet to experience the “friendship” of God. | ||
