Nombre d'entre eux perdent leurs biens, leurs racines séculaires, lors de l'opération Alberich en 1917. Mais, après le temps de la destruction, vient ensuite celui de la reconstruction, souvent avec l'appui financier des Églises protestantes des nations alliées. The Protestants of northern France and the east of Picardy were a tiny minority and scattered in small congregations, but they derived from the biblical text the courage to confront a particularly repressive foreign occupation which lasted more than three years; they sometimes discovered fellow believers beneath the German uniform. Many of them lost their possessions, and their age-old roots, during the 1917 Alberich operation. But after the time of destruction came that of rebuilding, often with the financial aid of the Protestant Churches of the Allied nations. Die nord- und nordwestfranzösischen Protestanten stellten eine sehr kleine Minderheit dar und verteilten sich auf winzige Gemeinden. Länger als drei Jahre lang schöpften sie aus der Bibel die Kraft, es unter einer außerordentlich harten Fremdherrschaft auszuhalten, und entdeckten mitunter selbst in deutscher Uniform einen Glaubensbruder. Viele von ihnen verloren 1917 während der „Operation Alberich“ihren Besitz und sahen sich ihrer jahrhundertalten Verwurzelung in der Region beraubt.
