Heureusement les lettres de leurs amis et collègues tels Isaac Casaubon, Simon Goulart, Bonaventura Vulcanius et autres ont comblé le manque d'information sur la relation entre les deux savants. Lorsque, après la mort de Bèze, Casaubon adressa à Scaliger une demande d'écrire un epicaedium en son honneur, il l'agréa tout de suite. Son poème qui se compose de 114 vers porte comme titre Epicedion venerandi Patris Theodori Bezae. On y retrouve les centres d'intérêt des deux hommes: l'étude de la chronologie et celle du Nouveau Testament. There is only a limited correspondence left between Beza and Scaliger. It concerns especially Scaliger's De emendatione temporum (1583/1598) and Beza's Novum Testamentum (five editions from 1556 to 1598). Fortunately the letters of their friends and colleagues like Isaac Casaubon, Simon Goulart, Bonaventura Vulcanius and others have filled in the gap in the information about the relationship between the two savants. When, after Beza's death, Casaubon addressed himself to Scaliger to invite him to write an epicaedium in his honour, he agreed immediately. His poem consists of 114 verses and is entitled Epicedion venerandi Patris Theodori Bezae. One recognizes in this poem the centers of interest of the two scholars: the study of chronology and that of the New Testament. Nur eine beschränkte Korrespondenz zwischen Beza und Scaliger ist uns übrig geblieben. Sie bezieht sich insbesondere auf Scaligers De emendatione temporum (1583/1598) und Bezas Novum Testamentum (fünf Editionen von 1556 bis 1598). Glücklicherweise besitzen wir Briefe von Kollegen und Freunden wie Isaac Casaubon, Simon Goulart, Bonaventura Vulcanius und andere, die diese Lücke in der Information über die Relation zwischen den beiden Gelehrten geschlossen haben. Als, nach dem Tode Bezas, Casaubon sich an Scaliger wandte mit der Bitte ein Epicaedium zu schreiben ihm zu Ehren, honorierte er diese Frage unmittelbar. Sein Gedicht besteht aus 114 Versen und ist betitelt Epicedion venerandi Patris Theodori Bezae. Man wird in diesem Gedicht die Brennpunkte des Interesses der beiden Gelehrten wiederentdecken: das Studium der Chronologie und das des Neuen Testaments. | ||
