Pourtant, en Allemagne et dans les Îles britanniques, des musées huguenots furent seulement fondés à partir de la fin du XIXe, voir avec le XXe siècle. Dans le contexte fédéral de la RFA, nous trouvons aujourd'hui des musées huguenots à Berlin et à Bad Karlshafen, de plus des lieux de mémoire à Erlangen ou en Wurtemberg. Dans les Îles britanniques, le seul musée huguenot est celui de l'Hôpital français à Rochester (Kent). On pourrait spéculer sur les raisons de ce manque de musées huguenots en Angleterre et en Irlande: est-ce que ceci est dû au quasi-mythe de l'assimilation rapide des huguenots dans les Îles britanniques – mythe qui a été mis en question par des recherches récentes? Ce qui est important pour les musées huguenots en Allemagne et dans les Îles britanniques, c'est l'échange poursuivi avec les chercheurs qui travaillent au sujet des huguenots. De plus, nous devrions travailler à une meilleure intégration de l'histoire des huguenots dans l'histoire de l'Europe et du monde atlantique. Towards the end of the 18th century, the Huguenot diaspora was in a state of crisis. Huguenot churches faced disintegration and ultimately disappearance. The descendants of the Huguenot refugees started looking for ways of preserving and passing on to future generations the memory of the persecutions and the flight of thousands of Huguenots from Louis XIV's France. However, Huguenot museums were only founded, in England from the late 19th century, in Germany from the 20th century onwards. Today, Germany has two major Huguenot museums, in Berlin and in Bad Karlshafen, and many places of remembrance. In the British Isles, we find only one Huguenot museum, attached to the French Hospital in Rochester, Kent. One could speculate about the scarcity of Huguenot museums and places of memory in the British Isles. Can it be explained through the «myth» of the Huguenots' rapid assimilation in the British Isles, a theme that has recently been challenged by new research on the Huguenot diaspora? What seems to be important is the long-established close relationship between Huguenot museums and researchers working on the Huguenot diaspora. Moreover, one of our aims should be the better integration of Huguenot history into the history of Europe and the Atlantic world. Mit dem Ende der hugenottischen Diaspora ab dem späteren 18. Jahrhundert entstand bei den Nachfahren der Réfugiés ein wachsendes Bedürfnis, die Geschichte der Verfolgung und der Flucht der Hugenotten aus dem Frankreich Ludwig XIV zu bewahren und an künftige Generationen weiter zu geben. Museen zur hugenottischen Geschichte entstanden in Deutschland und auf den britischen Inseln jedoch erst ab dem späteren 19. bzw. im 20. Jahrhundert. Während das hugenottische Erbe und ihre Geschichte im föderalen Kontext der BRD in Berlin, Bad Karlshafen, Erlangen und an vielen anderen Erinnerungsorten tradiert wird, gibt es auf den britischen Inseln lediglich das French Hospital in Rochester, Kent, das eine Ausstellung zur Geschichte der Hugenotten vorweist. Ob dieses Faktum dem Narrativ der schnelleren Assimilierung der Hugenotten auf den britischen Inseln geschuldet ist – ein Narrativ, das von der neuesten Forschung in Frage gestellt wird, bleibt letztendlich nur Vermutung. Wichtig für Museen und Erinnerungsorte in Deutschland und auf den britischen Inseln ist in jedem Fall ihr bereits bestehender, aber noch ausbaufähiger ständiger Austausch mit der Forschung zum Refuge bzw. die Reintegration der hugenottischen Geschichte in die allgemeine Geschichte Europas und des atlantischen Raumes. | ||
