Étrangers au régime des cultes reconnus, des baptistes français ont parfois choisi l'émigration, souvent pour des raisons religieuses. Entre 200 et 300 baptistes français seraient partis outre-Atlantique, créant de nouvelles communautés francophones en Amérique. By far the most important French protestant emigration is the Huguenot Refuge, from the end of the XVIIth Century to the middle of the XVIIIth Century. However, the case of the French Baptists reveals another example of emigration, although its scale is not comparable. It took place later, during the XIXth Century. Excluded from the status of an 'authorized' Church, some French Baptists decided to leave their country, often for religious reasons. Between 200 and 300 French Baptists settled in America, creating new francophone communities in that country. «Le Refuge» (die Auswanderung der Hugenotten nach der Aufhebung des Ediktes von Nantes) stellt bei weitem das Wesentliche der französischen protestantischen Emigration zwischen dem Anfang des 17. und der Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts dar. Aber das Beispiel des französischen Baptismus offenbart ein anderes wenngleich viel reduziertes Emigrationsphänomen. Es vollzieht sich im Laufe des 19. Jahrhunderts. Da sie den anerkannten Gottesdienstformen völlig fremd gegenüberstanden, wählten französische Baptisten mitunter die Emigration, oftmals aus religiösen Gründen. Zwischen 200 und 300 französische Baptisten haben demnach den Atlantik überquert und neue französischsprachige Gemeinden in Amerika gegründet. | ||
