AB La question de la providence traverse toute l'œuvre de Simon Goulart (1543-1628), pasteur à Genève, historien et poète. La Saint-Barthélemy suscite d'abord une réflexion sur la justice rétributive et ses délais, inspirée de Plutarque. Puis l'obscurité du présent l'amène à adopter une perspective plus large, tant sur la Création que sur l'histoire, y cherchant, dans des textes et des genres divers, les signes et le sens de l'action divine. An enquiry about providence is present throughout the works of Simon Goulart (1543-1628), pastor in Geneva, historian and poet. The Saint Bartholomew Day's massacre produces a meditation, inspired by Plutarch, on retributive justice and its timing. But the darkness he sees in the present time leads him to enlarge his perspective on Creation as well as on History, in which he never ceased, in different texts and genres, to look for the signs and meaning of God's action. Die Frage der Vorsehung nimmt im Werk von Simon Goulart (1543-1628), Pastor in Genf, Historiker und Schriftsteller einen bedeutenden Platz ein. Die Ereignisse der Bartholomäusnacht wecken in ihm zunächst die Erwartung einer umittelbaren ausgleichenden Gerechtigkeit. Die Dunkelheit seiner Zeit führt ihn in weiterer Folge zu einer erweiterten Betrachtung – sowohl in bezug auf die Schöpfung als auch hinsichtlich der Geschichte – bei der er niemals aufhört, nach Zeichen und Bedeutung von Gottes Handeln zu suchen.
