Noyés dans un tissu conjonctif catholique, les quelques 370 protestants du début du XVIIe siècle ne parviennent pas, comme beaucoup d'autres Églises réformées du royaume, à se maintenir numériquement. Pourtant, la forte prolificité de ses membres, les pouvoirs décisionnels dont ils jouissent par leurs activités professionnelles laissaient augurer d'un beau XVIIe siècle. D'ailleurs la communauté ne fut quasiment pas sujette aux persécutions jusqu'à la Révocation. Si l'on se doit d'impliquer des tendances générales à ce déclin (Contre-Réforme, déclin du parti protestant...), il semble bien que l'on doit incriminer au premier chef des mutations dans les relations internes du groupe. An den Grenzen einer von den Glaubenskriegen wundgeschlagenen Touraine ermöglicht die kleine Stadt Preuilly seit 1589 den allgemeinen reformierten Gottesdienst für die gesamte « Südtouraine ». Den 370 Protestanten, die in einem katholischen Gefüge verloren waren, gelingt es am Anfang des XVII. Jahrhunderts nicht, wie vielen anderen reformierten Kirchen des Königsreichs, ihre Zahl zu erhalten. Die starke Zeugungskraft ihrer Mitglieder, ihre wirtschäfliche Macht und die Entscheidungskraft, die sie dank ihrer Berufstätigkeit besitzen, ließen trotzdem ein schönes XVII Jahrhundert erwarten. Übrigens wurde die Gemeinde bis zur Aufhebung der Verordnung von Nantes fast nicht verfolgt. Wenn allgemeine Tendenzen (Gegenreform und Untergang der Protestanten...) an diesem Untergang Schuld haben, scheint es, daß man die Veränderungen in den inneren Beziehungen der Gruppe zwerst nennen muß. Within the region Touraine that suffered from the Wars of Religion, the small town Preuilly, housed from 1589, the reformed public worship that ministered to southern Touraine. Within a catholic domination, the 370 protestants of the early 17 th century did not manage to maintain their number like many other communities of the Realm. However, the high reproduction rate, the economic and decision-making powers they had thanks to their professional activities paved the way for a promising 17 th century. Moreover, until the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes, the community was hardly affected by persecution. If general tendancies play a role in this decrease (counter-reformation, decrease of the protestant party...), it seems that firstly we must incriminate changes in the internal relations of the community. | ||
