La deuxième partie présente une brève biographie de Wilhelm van der Linden, évêque de Roermond et de l'antitrinitaire Johannes Campanus, que van der Linden tenta de convertir. Dans la troisième partie, nous analysons un écrit de 1575 adressé par van der Linden à Campanus, en prêtant une attention particulière à la manière dont l'évêque de Roermond se sert du miracle de Laon. The essay is in three parts; we first of all expose briefly, on the basis of Jean Boulaese and other sources, the events that make up the « miracle » of Laon, which took place in February 1566 when a young woman, Nicole Obry of Vervins in Picardie, was freed from the thirty devils (including Beelzebub) which had been possessing her, by the presence of « the body of our Lord » in the host presented to her by Jean de Bours, bishop of Laon. The second part is taken up with biographical sketches of Wilhelm van der Linden, bishop of Roermond and his potential convert, the antitrinitarian Johannes Campanus. The third part is devoted to an analysis of van der Linden's brochure (addressed in 1575 to Campanus) with particular attention being paid to the way in which the bishop of Roermond exploits the miracle of Laon. | ||
