Nous avons voulu reconstituer les théories de cet hétérodoxe, grâce au Procès manuscrit déposé à la Bibliothèque Nationale et surtout grâce à la rarissime Refutation que le Pasteur Jean Chassanion, en 1583, avait faite des « erreurs étranges » du condamné : Noël Journet, qui rejetait à la fois le Catholicisme et la Réforme, semble avoir refusé tout crédit à l'Ecriture Sainte et avoir nié la divinité du Christ, rèvant au contraire de fonder une « nouvelle religion » ainsi qu'une société libérée des « tyrans », des « impositions » et même du « mariage »! In June 1582, in Metz, a young schoolteacher, Noël Journet, was burnt at the stake. He was guilty of "execrable atheism and blasphemy", and also revolutionary egalitarism... We tried to reconstruct the theories of this heterodox thinker with the help of the manuscript of his Trial (from the files of the Bibliotheque Nationale), and mostly with the help of the exceedingly rare "Refutation" that Jean Chassanion wrote about the "strange errors" of the condemned man. Noël Journet, who spurned both Catholicism and Reformation, seems to have denied the divine nature of Christ. On the contrary, he dreamt of founding a "new religion" as well as a society free from "tyrants" from "taxes", and even from "mariage" | ||
