One stanza gives a stylised description of a verbal duel containing Djari's challenge to Khety in direct speech. Khety, probably a Heracleopolitan and emphasised as the enemy of Djari, is described with the epithet jr ḳrw.w — „storm-maker”. Thus Djari reviles him as a Seth-like figure disturbing the right order of Horus Wakh-ankh. „Warrior-heroic” verbal duelling occurs only very rarely in Egyptian texts, but was fairly common in other ancient Near Eastern texts. The Khety-episode probably reflects the quarrel about the territory of Thinis, an area that was much disputed. In contrast to its ugly hieroglyphs the text is well composed. A new translation of the stonetablet (Cairo, JE 41437 is given. | ||
