In the first place, the status of Ponce Pilate is studied, as well as his capacity to sentence to death, the place in Jerusalem where he would deliver the sentences. Then the various steps of the proceedings which led eventually the Christ to the cross are reviewed, including the peculiarities that the Acta Pilati contain as opposed to the canonical gospels: legal proceeding by hostile Jews (this is not consistent to the rules then prevailing), insistence on the charge of magic, convocation of the Christ by a cursor (and not by a praeco), entrance of Jesus in the praetorium together with the story of the flagging Standard-bearers, debates opposing hostile Jews to Pilate and Jews between themselves (especially on the topic of proselytism), final sentence ordered by Pilate who wants to maintain public order. From the words (Latin or Greek) used by the narrator, one sees that the Acta Pilati have got to be written during the fourth century, possibly by a scholar; the addressees of this narration cannot be clearly identified, however, this text is part of a propaganda literature: it is a invitation to conversion.
