Summary: | The “benzedeiras”, folk healers, common throughout all Brazilian territory, are people who keep traditional healing practices, which they exert in their office as intermediaries between man and the divine, between the sacred and the profane. This mediation of perception and intervention over the maladies of those who solicit the healer”s help takes place through ritual practices and specific corporeal processes developed in the trajectory of these agents, which allow them to interact and negotiate with the sacred dimension. The text intends to analyze the usage and manifestation of these sensorycorporeal processes, “Gifts”, of the folk healers from the municipality of Rebouças (PR) through the paradigm of embodiment proposed by Thomas Csordas (CSORDAS, 2008). Thus, this text presents an understanding of “Gifts” as somatic modes of attention, modes culturally defined of being attentive with and to the body in an intersubjective environment. In order to accomplish this analysis, the text recurs to the narratives of two folk healers and the description of healing procedures and interventions performed by them. |
