By looking closely at the theology of Richard Hooker and John Whitgift, the author shows that the elevation of episcopacy into a matter of necessity by Pusey and the Oxford Movement is an innovation. An alternative model of episcopacy is developed which allows for the possibility of greater ecumenical reconciliation. | ||
