| Résumé: | This article interprets Mark 16:1—8 as a narrative, which — expounding 1Cor 15:4 — proclaims the resurrection of Jesus Christ as conquest of the power of the kingdom of death and the dawning of a new creation. The rising sun, the stone rolled back, and the empty tomb are seen as metaphors, which aim beyond the historically real to the opening up of the gates of death and to the end of its rule. The decisive question is not whether we regard the narrative as historically true, but whether we still understand the biblical language, which parabolically points to God's reality and his life-giving power. |
