The second section argues that reading the Bible as one story is urgent for three reasons: it is only in reading the Bible as one story that we can understand the Bible's authority, that we can understand our identity as God's people as missional, and that we can counter other meta-stories that compete for our allegiance. The last section responds to the postmodern charge that all grand stories are oppressive.
