It wrestles with issues of gender equality and human sexuality at home and with nascent schism in the larger Anglican Communion abroad., The Church nonetheless retains significant privileges. The United Kingdom remains the sole sovereign democratic legislature giving ex officio representation to religion: twenty-six bishops sit as full voting members in the legislature.
