Description
Summary:Jean Porter is known for careful historical scholarship in the scholastic concept of the natural law and its relevance for contemporary Christian ethics. She typically interprets scholastic texts in their intellectual and cultural contexts before reconstructing their theological and moral arguments for the present day. Her writings have brought scholastic concepts of nature and the natural law into dialogue with present-day evolutionary psychologists and philosophers, asking in the context of multifaith conversations whether the natural law provides a universally valid morality. In this book she draws the writings of scholastic jurists into dialogue with early twenty-first century discussions about the foundations, sources, scope, and purpose of human law.
