Summary: | This volume presents a collection of papers presented at a conference in 2006. It constitutes a report of the fifth annual Building Bridges seminar of Christian and Muslim scholars convened by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The papers presented in the book are logically organized. Part I contains the scriptural foundations for a consideration of justice and human rights in the two faith traditions. Part II considers later interpretations of these texts, with a focus on writers such as St. Augustine, Ibn Ludd, al-Ghazah, and Martin Luther. Part III focuses on human rights in recent times, and largely consists of excerpts from key documents such as the Barmen Declaration, writings of Imam Khomeini, the Second Vatican Council, and two recent Islamic declarations on human rights. |
