In the centenary year it has been reissued both in a photographic reproduction of the 1907 original and in an edited commentary. In the latter, seven high-profile writers respond at the conclusion of a chapter (or chapters) in the original text with four-to-six page commentaries that demonstrate the relevance of Rauschenbusch's arguments for Christians today. In an afterword, philosopher Richard Rorty laments that Christians in the long run failed to take hold of the social vision that the author had set forth and this left them unable to avert the catastrophes that so marked the twentieth century.
