The main aims of this work are to standardize the nomenclature applied to different written accounts of the past and to prove that the medieval chronicle genre has its roots in traditions that stretch back at least as far as Greco-Roman antiquity, and probably also into earlier Near Eastern cultures. Much of this argument is set out in chapter 1, with medievalists receiving the majority of the criticism. | ||
