Gone, happily, are the days when it was believed that Barth’s concentration on God’s Wholly Otherness suspended his dogmatic work in an apolitical freeze-frame. In this finely argued revision of her doctoral dissertation, Carys Mosely has gone one step further. Not only is politics ingredient to Barth’s theology, specifically in this case in the form of ‘nationhood’, it provides a determining motive for his theological development, through his critique of nationalism.
