The result is a lucidly structured and articulated text, complete with rich footnotes and ample introductory and summary paragraphs. In studying Origen’s approach to Scripture, Martens is well aware that he is entering a thoroughly ploughed field, and he proposes that his project is different in key aspects from the foundational studies of Henri de Lubac, R. P. C.
