Jefford has taken account of a wide range of literature, but apparently could not include A Diognète: Visions chrétiennes face à l’empire romain, ed. G. Aragione, E. Norelli, and F. G. Nuvolone (reviewed in JTS, ns 64 [2013], pp. 250–2). He writes a full study of the possible historical settings, especially Smyrna, Athens, and Alexandria, and of structure and authorship. He concludes that the work fits the mid-to-late second century.
