Description
Summary:This is the English translation of Hans-Martin Barth’s Die Theologie Martin Luthers: Eine kritische Würdigung, which was published by Gütersloh in 2009. As emeritus professor of systematic theology at the University of Marburg, Barth draws on long years of teaching Protestant theology to students deeply rooted in the contemporary context of church and society, and this experience shines through his work. Barth is consistently concerned to demonstrate the ways in which the assumptions of the twenty-first century—for instance about anthropology, society, and the role of faith—differ from those of Luther and his contemporaries, and to test the extent to which Luther’s insights can still make a contribution to our theological thinking today.
