Today, the epistle is still problematic and debate continues regarding its date, author, provenance, relationship to 2 Peter, ethnicity, orthodoxy, and canonicity. Jude represents a textual site of great significance for Christian origins, especially as it cites the Book of Enoch as authoritative text (Jude 1:6, 14–15; 1 En. 1:9, 60:8). In this essay, I investigate the relationship between Jude, the identification of Jude’s ‘false teachers’, and the christological and theological implications of Jude’s citation of Enochic tradition.
