Description
Summary:In his brief Preface the author thanks his doctoral supervisor, R. P. Gordon, for his support in a ‘topic of … somewhat unwieldy scope’. That description alerts the reader to the hard work involved in comprehending the mass of details presented. The basic intention is to explain why the LXX designations of God often differ from the Masoretic Text as represented by the Leningrad MS., After an Introduction (ch. 1, pp. 1–18), stating the question and reviewing previous studies, with examples, Harvey sets out his methodology (ch. 2, pp. 19–36) in treating the texts covered, namely the M(asoretic) S(urvey)T(ext), the G(reek)S(urvey)T(exts), i.e. the LXX, and O(ther)G(reek)W(itnesses), the Dead Sea Scrolls, Samaritan Pentateuch, Old Greek, and Targumic and Peshitta renderings.
