Summary: | This is the seventh volume in the series published by l’Institut de Recherche et d’Histoire des Textes on John Chrysostom’s Greek manuscript collections extant in places around the world. This particular volume provides descriptions of the first 181 of the 614 Chrysostom manuscripts held in Paris in the Bibliothèque nationale de France. It is a work worthy of the tradition established by the outstanding scholars Robert Carter and Michael Aubineau with the first two volumes in 1968. The book is a superb tool for the specialist, but every researcher working on John Chrysostom’s writings would benefit from reading the introduction, which is a survey of French manuscript scholarship covering the period 1500–1800. |
