Zusammenfassung:All societies have a tendency to classify their populations, whether by class, function, age, sex, or ethnic origin. This book is a study of the semantic domain of the most common words in Biblical Hebrew which relate to age, or the stages of the life-cycle as perceived by the biblical writers, which saw its origin as a Drew University Ph.D. thesis. An opening chapter discusses the nature of words, and in particular the state of play in modern lexicography and in modern linguistics, and in the claims made for synchronic and/or diachronic understandings of Hebrew vocabulary.
