Summary: | This is a detailed, authoritative, and important book which examines what really lies behind the liturgical thinking of the present Pope, Benedict XVI. What I particularly liked about the work was not only the author’s obvious scrupulous mastery of his subject and his detailed mining of important sources, but also his heartfelt appraisal of his own personal thinking on the matter which he tells readers has been a part of his life for the past 20 years. The author, Anselm Gribbin, is a religious in the Abbey of Tongerlo in Belgium; he lives in the monastery facing on a daily basis the issues the book addresses, and this is why there is a gravitas and urgency to his writing and why there is a strong sense that the author does know what he is talking about. I strongly recommend it. |
