Summary: | This is a lively volume, which approaches medieval exegesis from unusual angles, and with a broad picture of its scope. Its subtitle identifies ‘production’, ‘reception’, and ‘performance’, though there is some overlap of these aspects in many of the contributions., ‘Production’ includes studies of the Italian giant Bibles (Lila Yawn) and lectern Bibles (Diane J. Reilly), of the development of the thirteenth-century Paris Bible (Laura Light) and the illustrated Psalter (Stella Panayotova). ‘Reception’ includes Jennifer A. Harris on ‘The Bible and the meaning of History’. Into the same category seem to fit the three essays on medieval vernacular translations, into English (Richard Marsden), French (Clive R. Sneddon), and Castilian (Emily C. Francomano). |
