| Summary: | In a previous work, The Search for the Origins of Christian Worship (London: SPCK, 1992) Paul Bradshaw opposed an approach to early Christian worship in which it was supposed that a single continuous line of development could be traced from the apostles to the fourth century. Now he builds on his earlier work and shares a number of studies of discontinuities in a volume drawing together published essays, some radically revised, on baptism (on the profession of faith and various ways in which anointing was administered), the eucharist (on different patterns of receiving communion and a brief survey of the significance of the ‘eucharistic prayers’ in the Didache and the Apostolic Tradition), and on daily and penitential prayer. |
