520 |a This excellent volume is the editio princeps of a little-known commentary on the letters of Paul extracted from the works of Ambrose of Milan by Florus, ninth-century deacon of Lyons (c.790–c.860). Part I, containing Florus’ extracts from the works of Cyprian and Hilary, appeared in 2002 (see JTS, ns 55 [2004], pp. 375–6) and Part III, extracts from other Fathers, in 2007. Some of Florus’ works were once attributed to Bede, including his better-known commentary on Paul drawn from the works of Augustine, available in PL 119. Ambrose and Florus were far apart in time, but were alike in being involved in the politics of church life as well as being deeply concerned with the Scriptures and their use in their own day.
