Summary: | Following what is now a familiar pattern in the Fontes Christiani series, Risse presents the Latin text of Jerome’s Commentarioli and its corresponding German translation on facing pages, prefacing this with a scholarly introduction of nearly 60 pages. Beginning with an overview of the complete work of Jerome on the Psalter, Risse carefully situates the Commentarioli within the whole picture of Jerome’s engagement with the Psalms, which occupied him in one way or another for the whole of his life. The Commentarioli offer for the most part only brief comments on the majority of the Psalms, though some 20 or more Psalms are not represented in the work. |
