Summary: | In this study Javier Pérez Mas offers a revisionist view of the ‘Luciferian’ schism of the 380s by setting it in its wider ecclesiastical context: the crisis that arose in the early 360s among some churchmen (including Lucifer of Cagliari) in the face of Nicene efforts to achieve reconciliation with former enemies. Building upon the work of Manlio Simonetti, Mas attempts to reconstruct the history of the Luciferian movement in order to determine to what degree Lucifer himself is implicated in the schismatic movements of the 380s that bear his name. |
