Description
Summary:[This volume appears in the series New Testament Tools, Studies, and Documents, a combination of two earlier series, Brill’s New Testament Tools and Studies (NTTS) and (latterly Eerdman’s) Studies and Documents (SD). It has the number 38, continuing the sequence from NTTS. Page ii gives a history of SD, misspelling the name of an earlier editor, Carsten Høeg.], Keith’s book is based on a thesis submitted to the University of Edinburgh. It accepts the non-canonical origin of the Pericope of the Adulteress (although does not describe it as an apocryphal fragment, comparable to, say, the episode of Jesus and ritual washing in P. Oxy 840) and argues why and when it became attached to the canonical writings.
