Description
Résumé:This volume is the third edition of McDonald's study, which was first published in 1988 (with the slightly different title The Formation of the Christian Biblical Canon). The new edition is considerably longer than its predecessors, though the scope and overall conclusions remain similar., McDonald attempts to provide a comprehensive study of the history of the biblical canon, considering both the canon of the so-called ‘Old Testament’ and that of the New Testament. He covers an enormous amount of ground, considering a range of issues both historically and theologically. Some discussion is provided on the more ‘theological’ level, considering the appropriateness (or otherwise) of having a canon of Scripture at all within a/the Christian church.
